Many 2019 onwards BMW and MINI vehicles are fitted with Bosch engine control units that are locked from the factory. Before these ECUs can be remapped or modified, the relevant unlock procedure must first be carried out.
At Pinnacle Tuning, we can unlock a wide range of BMW and MINI Bosch MG1 / MD1 DMEs in-house, including many of the later 2020+ ECUs that previously had to be sent away for unlocking.
Once unlocked, we can also carry out the ECU tuning itself, including Stage 1, Stage 2 and custom dyno tuning where applicable.
2019–2020 BMW & MINI ECU Unlocking
We have been offering in-house BMW Bosch ECU unlocking for a number of years, covering a wide range of BMW and MINI applications.
Many earlier MG1 / MD1 ECUs can be unlocked directly at our workshop, allowing the ECU to then be read, written and tuned using compatible tuning software.
If you’re unsure whether your vehicle requires an unlock before tuning, simply send us your registration or VIN and we can confirm the ECU type and compatibility.
New 2020+ In-House Bench Unlocking
We can now also unlock a range of the later post-2020 Bosch DDE8 / DME8 ECUs in-house using the latest bench solution.
Previously, many of these ECUs had to be removed from the vehicle and sent to a third-party unlocking facility before any tuning could take place.
For supported ECUs, this is no longer required.
The ECU can now be unlocked directly on the bench at Pinnacle Tuning, with:

Unlocking carried out completely in-house
This makes the process considerably quicker and allows many vehicles to be completed as a same-day / while-you-wait service.

Our ECU unlock service is available from £240 including VAT.
This price covers the ECU unlocking procedure itself.
Where additional workshop labour is required to access, remove and refit the ECU, this may be charged separately depending on the vehicle and ECU location.
Customers are also welcome to send us a loose ECU for unlocking.
